Male Roman Shell Cameo Pendant c.1890

The left-facing profile of the bearded man is well carved in the beautifully colored shell. The attribute of the staff may indicate that the subject is a scholar.

The conforming oval frame is 18K gold. The reverse and bale are 14K and appear to date from a later period. Note too that the back has been engraved. The cameo is one inch long x 7/8 inch wide.
