Bright, hollow-cast 14K gold is paired with raspberry, rose cut garnets. The brooch is in excellent condition. Its detailed gold work is fresh and the stones are clean. It is 1.75 inch long x 1 inch wide. The east-west pointed ends are reinforced (on the back) with a triangular and thin layer of rose gold to provide extra support for the pin mechanism.
Brooches
Agnar Skrede designed the "Wave" pattern for David Andersen (Norway)in 1954. Since then, it has become one of his most collected lines especially now, because it seems quite ahead of it's time.
The white enamel is positively radiant on the body of the brooch. There's also a pattern (guilloche) of perfectly round and fizzy bubbles under the enamel. Vertical silver shapes--in relief--dance across the face. The brooch is edged in a conforming silver "frame". So simple. So classic.
The brooch measures 2.25 inches long. It is in very good condition and the reverse is goldwashed.
Although relatively small (1.75 inch long) the design of this brooch engages the eye. In the center there's a raised oval with one diamond flanked by two rubies. The raised sides of the oval reflect the raised gold dots on either side. The ends carry a foliate design in relief that echos the engraved patterns around the stones. To top it off the entire brooch has a delicate roping. The gold has a warm color. Marks on the reverse are, on the right side inside hexagonal stamps: 15, 625, anchor, blank shield. On the left side: M and R (likely the maker). In excellent, gift appropriate condition.
The quality of this pendant brooch is superb. The profile of the Roman noblewoman is masterfully carved from shell. The conforming oval frame with 8 natural pearls heightens the power of the cameo within. The setting is remarkable. Note the arrow shape of the pin hood and the overall strength of the setting (esp. obvious from the reverse). Set in 18K gold. Measures 1-3/16 inch long (w/ bale) and 1-1/8 inch wide.
The design of this brooch has the surety of a brushstroke. It is wonderfully crafted in substantial sterling over which a vibrant aqua enamel shades off to a dark blue. An added feature is that it may be worn in any direction you may like. Quite a punch for a 2.25 inch (diameter) x 1.5 inches (high) brooch.
Overall condition is excellent and indeed, the piece looks virtually new. One detail that impresses is the ultra-secure, well-honed pin back.
There are a number of marks on the verso. They are: "SO" (likely the maker), the symbol of the balance scales (known as the post 1973 Common Control Mark), "925" (sterling) and the symbol of a castle (possibly Hamburg).
